Design and modelling of a bottle filling process

The objective was to fully test, validate and optimize a process including all mechanical, electrical and logic aspects virtually before committing to a final design for implementation.

Product and process development

Turn key pilot plant for a new liquid process

The customer wanted to develop a new process and build a pilot plant before scale-up. We executed everything from the process principles, basic engineering up to construction of the pilot plant including the design and programming of the plant automation (PLC) with remote monitoring capabilities.

We also handled the start-up and testing with this installation.


Product optimization

Using X-ray tomography to monitor the development of porosity, connectivity, pore size distribution, etc. in a piece of dough during the proofing and baking process.

With this information we can optimize the product formulation as well as the oven conditions to give us that perfect loaf we are looking for!

3D Food printing

We developed a large volume 3D food printer to print, for example, fat and sugar based ingredients. The printer is based on fast and accurate continuous extrusion, in stead of the small volume syringe type extruders commonly used in foods. This allows the user to print large volumes or large series quickly and efficiently by eliminating the need to refill syringes.


A few other examples were we contributed:

  • Development of low salt, sugar, and/or fat products
  • Redesign of a cream cheese process to prevent out-of-spec product
  • Development of pyramid tea bags
  • Optimization of ice cream extrusion
  • Processing and application development for new edible oil types
